Recruited by Collingwood as a 17 year-old, Dane Swan was drafted with pick 58 in the 2001 AFL draft and played for the team until a severe injury prompted his retirement from the AFL in 2016. Known as a prolific ball-winner, Swan averaged almost 27 disposals per game over his career. Dane Swan is a premiership player, a Brownlow Medalist, a three-time Copeland Trophy recipient, a Leigh Matthews Trophy recipient, three club Best & Fairest awards, and a five-time All-Australian.

Over 200 games later, Dane Swan’s highly respectable AFL career has him destined to be immortalised as a club legend. Known for his loveable and easy going nature, AFL fans saw him as a favourite competition wide. Unfortunately, Dane’s career was cut short suddenly from his severe low leg injury during a clash on the field, prompting him to retire in August of 2016.

Following his AFL career’s success, Dane Swan released an autobiography, “My Story” detailing his career highs and lows, his path to success, and his personal experiences within the sport. The book was reviewed as revealing, fascinating, funny, and brutally honest. He also went on to invest in several business ventures, including a bar, tattoo shop and a clothing range.

In 2017, Dane Swan appeared on Channel 10’s reality TV show “I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Outta Here”, where he finished runner up. He provided hilarious entertainment for the show’s viewers, especially during the various contestant challenges. In 2021, Dane was a weekly contributor on Kiss FM’s Breakfast Program with Jase & PJ, sharing his perspectives on topical issues along with the AFL Season.

In more recent years, Dane Swan has expanded his media footprint, appearing regularly on various podcasts and sporting panels. In 2024, Dane Swan was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame – cementing his legacy as one of AFL’s greats. He remains one of the most engaging and entertaining voices in Australian sport, and hasn’t lost his nation-wide popularity.
