In 2008 Chris Mayne made an impressive debut for the Fremantle Dockers in an exhibition match in South Africa against Carlton, kicking two goals.

At the conclusion of the 2016 AFL season, Mayne joined Collingwood as an unrestricted free agent after playing 172 games and kicking 196 goals for Fremantle since making his debut in 2008.

Mayne retired at the end of the 2021 AFL season.

Chris Mayne is a proud supporter of the starlight children’s foundation, a family man, and a plant-based Athlete. He has just celebrated a WAFL premiership with South Fremantle after spending the past two seasons on the Bulldogs’ coaching panel. Mayne has now joined the coaching panel for the Fremantle Dockers ahead of the 2026 season.

“I’m super excited to have the opportunity to be part of where it all began for me as a player, It’s been a bit of a journey over the past four years since my retirement from playing, during which I’ve been able to build on my coaching craft – starting at Trinity College, then stepping in at South Freo – gaining experience in both the fundamentals and program building, and most recently being part of a successful campaign with South Freo this year. Hopefully, I can bring my experience – not only as a player – but also as a coach, to help further develop Freo’s program. I’m keen to get stuck in and start working with JL (Justin Longmuir), Jaymie Graham and the rest of the coaching team.” 

Chris Mayne is the Owner and Head Coach of “Little Mayne Academy”, running football coaching programs for children aged Kindy to Year 6.

“Footy has been part of my life since I could walk. The game has shaped who I am — teaching me discipline, resilience, and the power of teamwork. Now, my passion is passing those lessons on to the next generation. With Level 2 & 3 coaching accreditations, a Diploma of Sport, and studies in education, I’ve dedicated my career after AFL to coaching kids of all abilities. My mission is simple: make footy fun, help kids believe in themselves, and create an environment where every child feels supported and inspired to be active.”
